Metallic Epoxy Flooring Kelowna
Stunning, one-of-a-kind metallic epoxy floor designs. Pearlescent pigments create a 3D, liquid-marble effect perfect for showrooms, offices, and upscale homes.
(236) 301-8111Metallic epoxy flooring is one of the most striking floor finishes available — a three-dimensional, liquid-marble effect created with pearl and metallic pigments suspended in a clear epoxy system. No two metallic floors look exactly alike; the pigments move and swirl during application, creating organic patterns that shift and shimmer as the light changes. In Kelowna, we're seeing metallic epoxy increasingly requested for luxury homes, showrooms, restaurants, and commercial spaces where the floor itself is meant to make an impression.

How Metallic Epoxy Works: The Chemistry Behind the Look
Metallic epoxy isn't a single product — it's a technique. The base is a water-clear or slightly pigmented 100% solids epoxy resin. Metallic pigments — finely milled metalite or mica powders in pearl white, copper, gold, silver, charcoal, and dozens of other tones — are added to the resin or broadcast onto the wet surface. The installer then uses a variety of tools and techniques (squeegees, trowels, heat guns, air manipulation) to move the pigments across the floor, creating swirls, waves, veins, and depth effects.
Because the pigments move in the liquid resin, the result is completely organic. Two floors installed the same day by the same crew in the same colours will look different. That's part of the appeal — and it's also why you're hiring an experienced installer rather than doing this yourself.
Metallic Epoxy Design Options
The design possibilities are extensive. Popular approaches include:
**Single Colour Base with Metallic Highlight:** A coloured epoxy base with a contrasting metallic pigment — charcoal and copper, white and silver, black and gold. The metallic contrast creates depth against the solid base.
**Pure Metallic (Full Metallic):** No solid base colour — only metallic pigments in two or three tones swirled together. Creates the classic liquid-marble look that reads completely differently from every angle.
**Lava / River Look:** Dark base colours with contrasting light metallic veining, imitating natural stone patterns. Very popular in restaurants and hospitality.
**Ocean Effect:** Blues, greens, and white pearl pigments create a water effect with genuine depth. Stunning in residential spaces with natural light.
Substrate Requirements for Metallic Epoxy
Metallic epoxy is less forgiving of surface imperfections than flake systems. Because the finish is smooth and highly reflective, any telegraphing from the concrete below — level changes, trowel marks, pitting, or poorly repaired cracks — will show in the finished floor.
This makes surface preparation even more critical. We typically grind metallic epoxy substrates to a finer profile than flake jobs, fill any surface defects with a skim coat of epoxy filler, and in some cases apply a base coat before the metallic layer. On rough or heavily damaged concrete, we may recommend a self-levelling underlayment to achieve a smooth substrate before the metallic application.
Don't let any installer tell you metallic epoxy can be done without proper prep on rough concrete. It can't — not well.
Topcoat and Durability of Metallic Epoxy Floors
Metallic epoxy floors are sealed with a clear polyaspartic or urethane topcoat that protects the metallic layer and determines the final sheen level. High-gloss topcoats maximize the light-play effect and create the most dramatic reflection. Satin topcoats soften the look while still showing the metallic depth. Matte topcoats create a sophisticated, understated finish.
Polyaspartic topcoats are UV-stable, meaning they won't yellow in Kelowna's bright Okanagan sunlight — critical for spaces with natural light exposure. They're also highly abrasion-resistant and chemical-resistant. A metallic epoxy floor with a quality polyaspartic topcoat is not just beautiful — it's genuinely durable for daily residential or commercial use.
Where Metallic Epoxy Works Best in Kelowna
Metallic epoxy is at its best in spaces where: - Natural or architectural lighting rakes across the floor and activates the metallic depth - The floor is a visual focal point, not just a background surface - The aesthetic of the space is modern, upscale, or design-forward
Ideal applications include: main level living areas, open-plan loft spaces, restaurant and hospitality flooring, car showrooms, boutique retail, home bars, wine cellars, and spa facilities.
It's not ideal for very high-traffic commercial applications (warehouses, shops) where abrasion resistance is the primary concern over aesthetics — in those cases, flake or commercial broadcast systems are better choices.
